Away from the usual tourist crowds, you will not only get to know new sides of our city, but we will also stop at one of the most famous Curry Sausage stands. But of course, the best way to get to know the city is on a guided walk - and the food trips offer plenty of opportunities for this: be it through the district of Kreuzberg, with snacks at various local shops or a visit to a restaurant with local specialties and atmosphere. In summer, a food tour by bike is another option: on this trip we also go to the largest park - the Tiergarten, where we take a break in a large, cozy beer garden.
What are the best food tours?
Food trips usually lead through a specific district of the city and are combined with a guided walk. It is therefore a combination of a Berlin sightseeing tour with culinary pleasures. On most tours, the guide leads through this district and stops at several local shops, where you can then try snacks on the street. These tours are usually aimed at participants who are alone, in pairs or as a very small group. Other formats, which are aimed more at larger groups, combine a city tour on foot, by bus or by bike with a visit to a restaurant, a Curry Sausage stand or a beer garden. What food tours are offered?
Food tours lead through the most popular districts of the city. Guided walks are most often offered in Kreuzberg. This is not surprising, as Kreuzberg is a colorful and diverse district where people with different cultures live. There is therefore a variety of culinary specialties to discover. But of course there are also guided walks through other city districts, such as around the Hackesche Höfe or through Prenzlauer Berg.
What do you have to eat in Berlin?
Curry Sausage and pork knuckle. Curry Sausage is a boiled sausage that is served with a curry ketchup sauce. The sausage can be served either whole or sliced. Curry Sausage is also available with or without intestines. As a side dish you can choose between rolls, fries or fried potatoes. The most famous Curry Sausage stalls are Konnopke in Prenzlauer Berg and Curry 36 in Kreuzberg. Eisbein is a cured pork knuckle. The pork rind is soft and cooked and not crispy like in Bavaria, for example. Typical side dishes are pea purée and sauerkraut.
